Kansas Adopts Common Core Standards

Much has happened since October 2010 when Kansas adopted the Common Core Standards, known today as the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts.  Implementation of the standards is well underway in our schools and we’ve already seen a difference in teaching and learning.  As Kansas educators are in their third and final year of transitioning to the new mathematics and English language arts standards, it is important that we continue to communicate the importance and rigor of these standards for our students.

Following is a link to several resources that we hope you will find useful in communicating with staff, students, parents, community and other constituents to help them understand the importance of the new Kansas mathematics and English language arts standards.  The link:  http://www.ksde.org/Default.aspx?tabid=4754 includes the following documents:

  • Two different Fact Sheets on Common Core Standards and Assessments
  • Top 10 Tips to Communicate about the Common Core Standards
  • Resources from other national organizations that support Common Core Standards
  • Supportive Common Core Standards Quotes

We hope you find these communication resources valuable as you continue to communicate the importance of the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards at the local level.
